Cup of Hope

Do you ever find yourself feeling that life keeps coming back full circle? Perhaps it's that niggling bad habit, or that thought line, the feeling of, so we are back here again.

I do, and I often find myself frustrated by it. Why do I keep coming back here? Well if that's you, or you know someone like it, I want to offer a cup of hope to you today.

Once upon a time, armed with only a camera and bottle of water, a young(ish) lady set out on an adventure...

The adventure was a route she had taken before, she had chosen to take it as an Oracle had sent her a message reminding her of this place. It had to mean something, so she walked.

As she walked warmed by the sun's shine, she noticed the signs of a season in transition. There were berries, chestnuts fallen, browning leaves, and acorns that lined the ground. Autumnal outfits colouring the scenery, yet warmed by the sun dancing through the evergreen leaves.

She came out of one field and turned down the country road leading to the tree - yes that tree that had monthly visits in 2021. It was to here (to hear?) the Oracle had spoken. Had she looked to the right, she'd had noticed it sooner but eyes ahead, she walked until the footpath opened up.

with a gasp she exclaimed "it's been cut more earlier than before" and sure enough when she scrolled back through her photos it was true. The corn had been cut months earlier than the previous year. "why how curious" the adventurer thought "I wonder if there is meaning in this"...

Oct 2021

and as I walked the field, the meaning came clear.

So often I/we do not speak kindly to ourselves when we find ourselves back in that familiar place, whether it is mental health, habit change, character - whatever it is, we do not give grace. If you feel like this, then I want to share with you, what I feel God reminded me, and I pray it gives you hope:

You are right, it has been cut much earlier than before. You come back to familiar places sometimes and are impatient and cross with yourself saying that nothing has changed and yet, that is not true. They are being cut down earlier than before, you can walk through the field with more sight this time, your foot is more steady, and your view wider.

In the last few months as I have been learning for my ICF Coaching Accreditation I have been struck anew by how amazing our brain structure is. How it has been formed and detailed. Habits take time to change, and new routes take time to learn. Yet we have this incredible neuroplasticity which means change is possible. Transformation of the mind is possible. You may be in a familiar place, you may feel frustrated, but take hope, clearer paths are coming.
